We are excited to have our parents and my sister, her husband, and son come up this weekend to spend some time together and be at church with us as we are having a Dedication service for Wyatt. This is just a brief outline of why we have chosen to publicly dedicate Wyatt even though in our hearts we have already made this commitment: publicly declare our faith, commitment and allegiance to Christ as parents and our desire to train our child to follow Christ; to declare that God is the true owner of our child; to dedicate ourselves and our parenting to biblical obedience; to express our heart's desire to give our child to the Lord. This is also a way for accountability--as parents we influence who our children become and even what they will believe. This accountability to our families and our church is a way that we can let them know our desires to raise our child in a biblical and godly family and to come along side us and encourage us in this life long endeavor. "It takes a village to raise a child" is pretty appropriate...and our little village needs to know how we desire to raise him.
